After tickling audiences' funny bones for almost seven years, Bollywood's original Khiladi Akshay Kumar returned to what he is best at - action. He was seen packing some hardcore kicks and punches in Prabhu Deva directed 'Rowdy Rathore'. Made with a budget of approximately Rs 40 crore, the film is a remake of Telugu film 'Vikramarkudu'. It is co-produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Ronnie Screwvala. The film will be released in 2,300 screens in India and around 400 screens overseas.
The film revolves around Shiva (Akshay), who is a small-time conman. He is head-over-heels in love with Priya (Sonakshi Sinha), a pretty girl whom he met at a wedding he wasn't invited to. The picture perfect world of Shiva turns upside down with the entry of six-year-old girl Neha, who believes he is her father.
Shiva also becomes the victim of a series of life threatening attacks by a gang of deadly criminals, who seem to know something he doesn't. In the quest to save his life and love, Shiva stumbles upon a deadly secret, something which takes him to a small town in Bihar.
That town is ruled by a ruthless MLA and the mafia he controls. The inhabitants of the small town find a saviour in Shiva. Akshay is said to have learned combat karate for his role in the film. He is seen sporting a rugged look in the film. The movie bosses had launched an online hunt for Akshay's look for 'Rowdy Rathore'.

'Rowdy Rathore' earns Rs.15.10 crore on opening day

New Delhi, June 2 — Akshay Kumar-starrer "Rowdy Rathore" has had a compelling start. The film has earned Rs.15.10 crore on the opening day, making it the third biggest opening of all times, after "Agneepath" and "Bodyguard". It also happens to be the biggest non-holiday opening of all time.
"Agneepath" and "Bodyguard" earned Rs.25 crore and Rs.22 crore on the first day of their release, respectively.
Directed by Prabhu Deva and co-produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Ronnie Screwvala, "Rowdy Rathore" marks the comeback of Akshay Kumar in a full-fledged action role after seven years. Made at a budget of Rs.45 crore, the film opened across 3,169 screens Friday.
"We are thrilled with the incredible opening day collections of 'Rowdy Rathore' across the length and breadth of India. It has notched up the third biggest opening day of all time and the biggest non-holiday opening day of all time," Siddharth Roy Kapur, managing director, Disney UTV Motion Picture, said in statement.
"It is also Akshay's biggest opening day ever. All of us - UTV, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Akshay, Sonakshi and of course Prabhu Deva are immensely thankful to audiences for helping this film to rewrite box office history," he added.
While centres like Kanpur, Nagpur, Indore, Jaipur, Udaipur and Lucknow have recorded 85 percent average collections in single screens, multiplexes too have shown encouraging occupancy.
"The first day response to the film is phenomenal. We have had 82 percent occupancy, which normally doesn't happen on Fridays. We expect a record number of occupancy over two days," Gautam Datta, COO, PVR Cinemas, told IANS.
"It is a very entertaining film, a typical Akshay Kumar film. The best part is we can see families coming to watch the film. It doesn't cater to a specific audience," he added.
Piyush Raizada of Delight Cinemas of Delhi also says all their shows are going house-full.
"'Rowdy Rathore' is a complete masala movie. People are really liking the film as it is for the masses. You get a natural smile on your face when you see it. Our shows are going house-full and the film is likely to pick up with word of mouth publicity," Raizada told IANS.

Sonakshi Sinha is not open to kissing scenes

Sonakshi Sinha made an enviable Bollywood debut with ‘Dabangg’. But she has donned a similar avatar in her next flicks, we wonder if Sonakshi worries about being typecast as the village belle. She defends her choices, “What is wrong with donning an Indian avatar? I think we women look most sensuous in a sari and Indian dresses.
Directors and producers find me fitting their characters, so what’s wrong with playing characters that are different and don’t indulge in a display of skin.”
She will soon be sharing screen space with serial kisser Emraan Hashmi. Does that mean we will see Sonakshi lock lips on screen? That brings on a blush and the lady notes, “No I have certain restrictions.
I am not open to any kissing scenes.”
Sonakshi turned 25 on June 2, 2012. Sonakshi says she doesn't really have a personal life despite being a most sought after heroine. She has been in the limelight since making her debut with "Dabangg" in 2010, be it for her figure or the men she is supposed to be dating.
With three more movies, barring 'Rowdy Rathore', due to hit the theatres this year, the actress says since she does not have a personal life and would rather talk about her films.
The daughter of actor-politician Shatrughan Sinha has quite a hectic schedule with 'Joker', 'Son of Sardar' and 'Dabangg 2' are in the offing

Rowdy rathore movie review -- Nothing new

Written By Prashanth kumar Nagati on Friday, June 1, 2012 | 11:41 PM

Khiladi Kumar’s version of a moustachioed cop is
appealing, but the formulaic plot makes the film
boring
From the promos and songs of Sanjay Leela Bhansali and
Prabhu Dheva’s Rowdy Rathore , it’s obvious the film is a
done-to-death drama woven around a larger-than-life
hero, except with a different superstar, Akshay Kumar.
Obviously, the film highlights our filmmakers’ desperate
need for a guaranteed success formula at the box office.
But when there have been so many films in the same
genre, shouldn’t writers and directors try to incorporate
some uniqueness and freshness to the over-abused plot?
Rowdy Rathore unfolds in Mumbai, where a small-time
thief, ironically called Shiva (Akshay Kumar) and his sidekick
(Paresh Ganatra) make a living by looting people – from a
policeman to the aam janta . During one such robbery, the
PJ-cracking thief’s eyes fall on the curvaceous, salwar-kurta
clad Paro (Sonakshi Sinha). It’s love at first sight for Shiva.
He not only tricks Paro into believing that she too is in love
with him, but also coolly becomes a part of the wedding
his lady love has come to attend from Patna. The first half
of the film goes into establishing Shiva’s city slick chor
character and his romance with Paro.
Meanwhile, on one occasion he gets into a situation of
mistaken identity. First he is mistaken by a man as his lost
bhaiyya , and then a young girl insists he is her father.
When Shiva tries to find out why the young girl is hellbent
on calling him her dad, he finds a photograph of the girl
with his lookalike. He is a cop, Vikram Rathore.
In the second half, it is revealed that Vikram hails from a
village called Devgarh where he saved people from Babji’s
(played by Nasser) tyranny. Soon after the intermission,
Vikram dies and Shiva takes over as the cop. And he
becomes Rowdy Rathore! Unlike Vikram, Shiva isn’t always
beating and punching the burly goons, he’s quite a city
slicker who slyly destroys Babji’s empire in the village. You
don’t need great imagination to know what happens next
and how the film ends.
Clearly to watch this film you shouldn’t pay attention to
any of those nerves and cells in your body that look for
rationale, ‘coz if you don’t you will suffer.
Sonakshi Sinha’s character is an extension of her role in
Dabangg , and she thankfully has more dialogues in this
on. She is in the film to cast a spell on the hero with her
chikni kamar and scare the villain in the climax scene by
singing praises of her rowdy thief-turned-cop boyfriend.
Akshay Kumar does an able job of playing thief, serious
cop and eventually thief-turned-cop, Rowdy Rathore. His
character is obviously inspired from Salman Khan’s
Chulbul Pandey in Dabangg and Ajay Devgn’s Bajirao
Singham in Singham. The only difference is that Akshay
has enhanced the chor and cop character by adding his
kind of slapstick humour to it.
Rowdy Rathore has all the ingredients that you look for in
a masala entertainer – a larger-than-life hero, a heroine
who looks good and dances well, punchy and funny
dialogues, humdrum situations, loud music, burly goons
and a happy end. Yet it doesn’t impress you. Or maybe if
you are an Akshay Kumar fan and would like to watch his
version of a mustachioed cop, go for it this weekend.

Saif Ali Khan can't sell his film?

Saif Ali Khan can't sell his film? No frequent small screen appearances, no big jacket ads, and no filthy show of money seems to be actor-producer Saif Ali Khan's way to promote his forthcoming release, Agent Vinod.

"It is one of those films which is a good idea to make and I'm happy about the fact that it was my idea. So, to spread awareness about my film, I'd be happy to talk about the film rather than selling it," says Saif, who doesn't want to overdo the promotions and fatigue the audience even before the film releases.

His promotional strategy includes a game and a comic book based on the film, a tour of 12 major cities in India closer to the release and a premiere in Colaba, Mumbai.

"Isn't that more than enough to spread the word," asks Saif, who is also working on a rock track with Delhi-based music band, Parikrama. "Though a live performance with Parikrama is not on the cards, the song will be included in the next set of CDs," he adds.

However, industry experts say that this kind of 'Re 1 more' rivalry has existed earlier and has been there for decades.

Gives you a feeling that Salman-Shahrukh are two parallels that will never meet.

Saif doesn't like to be called a Nawab

Saif doesn't like to be called a Nawab Saif Ali Khan was at his wittiest best during a whistlestop promotional tour to Ahmedabad.

Sporting a trendy new hair cut and smart casuals that took years off his actual choronological age, Saif looked like young corporate hi-flier on a day out.

He flashed a toothy grin and attibuted his 'young' look to his "hairstylist" who says the actor, "knows what makes me look younger and better. I must praise him for this one," says Saif. He also confessed that he didn't really "like being addressed as Nawab saab" and finds the official title too "formal."

Prod him whether he too, like Aamir Khan, has started taking up the one film a year trend, Saif immediately is on a defensive mode, "Only in 2011 I had one release Aarakshan, otherwise I ensure that I do at least three films in a year."

Bipasha prefers love making scenes to kissing

Bipasha prefers love making scenes to kissing After a brief sabbatical from films last year, Bollywood diva Bipasha Basu is back and raring to go. In a discussion with a news channel, she spoke about her single status and intimate scenes in films.

Speaking about her single status, she said "There are two kinds of single individuals: Either they are single by choice or just single. I belong to the category of being single by choice. I have been on the other side and have been in relationships since the age of 15. There is no point in rushing into something wrong just to get married. You must know how to take care of yourself and find happiness."

The actress says that she prefers love making scenes to kissing on screen.

"Kissing is a very intimate experience. But kissing is an integral part of movies. I prefer lovemaking scenes where we are wearing these off-shoulder dresses and play acting. It might sound stupid, but kissing scares me," Bipasha said.

Rishi Kapoor says we should be ashamed of ourselves

Rishi Kapoor says we should be ashamed of ourselves Last month while attending a Bollywood event at the London School of Economics Rishi Kapoor, never known to mince words, got into a heated argument with Rachel Dwyer-yes, the same Bollywood expert who has researched extensively on Hindi films and actors.

Apparently the well-informed lady argued with Rishi Kapoor over a vital question, which is Rishi Kapoor's first film? Every record of his achievements states it is 'Mera Naam Joker'.

But Rachel Dwyer with her vast storehouse of knowledge on Hindi cinema, insisted it was 'Shree 420' where Rishi along with his brother Randhir and sister Reema made a fleeting appearance.

Prof Rachel Dwyer a Bollywood expert who teaches at the University of London, left Rishi stumped with her knowledge of Indian cinema and actors.

Apparently Prof Dwyer knew things about Rishi's career that he was himself unaware of. The still-stunned actor said, "This Prof. Dwyer knows so much about our films. She speaks fluent Hindi and sang the entire Jan gan man. It made me feel ashamed of how little our own actors and technicians know about our past.

I didn't sleep with anyone, says Preity Zinta

I didn't sleep with anyone, says Preity Zinta Bollywood actress Preity Zinta came face-to-face recently with her biggest hater 'Chirag Mahabal' on the popular TV show 'Love 2 Hate U'.

The hater criticised Preity saying she got involved in the IPL because her film career wasn't going anywhere. He also said that the involvement of Bollywood celebrities has made showbiz out of IPL.

Preity, in her defense said, "I've learnt to be passionate about cricket. I never knew anything about it before. The IPL cricket was launched before the big recession. It's my hard-earned money that I put in my team. I did not scam anyone; I did not sleep with anyone."

The hater also claimed that Preity has only played bubbly characters in her films.

In her reply, Zinta said, "I'm bubbly but I'm still a person with enough substance. I can be a big 'sadu' and extremely depressed. I played bubbly roles because my producers found me appropriate for that."

Later, things got so heated up, that the hater suffered an asthma attack.
